Twitch of course is not the only streaming service out on the market. Many people are able to,not only stream themselves for both their friends and fans, but they are also able to save their pre streamed video as if it was a recording and post on their channel for later so that viewers who were unable to make their original broadcast can be caught up with everyone else. I would say that Twitch’s biggest competitors would be of course Youtube live, Vimeo, Facebook live , and Periscope. First, all of these apps are better well known globally. Earlier I said that if you weren’t a gamer or at least interested in gameplay, the odds that you have never heard of nor came across twitch is high. YouTube and Facebook automatically have better brand recognition than Twitch due to their longevity and history in the social media market since early the early 2000’s. Vimeo has its high stature because 9 times out of 10, if you cant find the video that you’re looking for on You tube, Vimeo will be the next option that will come your way. This is mostly because Vimeo is the second most relevant site that pops up on google. Lastly, Periscope is well known off Twitter and Instagram. A lot of people, young and old, have all had or currently have an Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter account, and its more common with younger people to “go on live”, which works well. Therefore, they don’t have the incentive to go searching for another streaming website. Not to mention, these streams have the same abilities as Twitch does, as viewers are able to comment, and leave likes simultaneously as they watch their fan or influencer. The streamer then has the option of saving their live stream to be put on their “story”, which will stay posted for at least 24 hours or however long they feel like keeping it posted. However, with these odds stacked against them, I think that Twitch can still be a force to reckon with because of their niche market. Twitch has a specific audience of gamers, therefore if anyone who wants to watch a gameplay, they have a large assortment of gameplays to watch all in one area, whereas if a gamer were to go on Facebook live or Instagram live, they would have a hard time searching for an actual game play. It would mostly be influencers or random people talking to their mutual followers as if it was a group facetime.
